Father's Day Weekend

Yesterday you broke my dad’s heart a little more than it was

the day before; the lifetime before that was bad enough but

you had to spit your pride and arrogance out like venom.

You just had to watch him bleed a little more cause it

must’ve made you feel more like a man to make a grown man cry

the day after Father’s Day when you cut down the tree he planted

twenty years ago with his youngest daughter that stopped loving him

and broke him more. You know he feels like a failure and that

was his last ditch hope to win that love back and I know it seems

so feeble to most of us, but I was there when that sister was born and

I held and cared for all of them. I watched my father turn soft again but,

to you soft is weak, and men don’t feel and I shouldn’t defend him over you.

That’s what you took from breaking another human’s heart- that I didn’t choose you

when you were -as dead as that hope tree- wrong? Not, maybe you should care more

think more, feel more, love more? No? Just that I don’t care enough, feel enough

love enough, cause it’s always about you and yours and I’m never yours, just the

replacement to your old life, and a hinderance to what you think you could be but,

you don’t realize everything you’ve done right was with me holding your feet.
