Entangled

Entangled in your web-of lies, of power, of manipulation;
I searched for years hoping to find the strength to run away.
I ran fast and hard and I didn't look back.
You grasped my wrist one last time;
Pulled me in and wrapped your hands around my neck.
I heaved for breath.
Laughing, you saw the life draining from my eyes.
You felt powerful,
And loved that I knew it.
Finally, gathering my bearing
And pushing you away, I escaped.
You'll never hurt me again.
I'll never let your calloused hands touch me.
Won't feel your sticky breath against my cheeks,
Or feel the glare of your dark soul on my body.
No more sleepless nights,
Wondering why I'm not enough for a man.
No more tears falling at your will.
I am strength, power, freedom.
I am fortitude, peace, steady.
I am happy.
